My name is Dean H. Laviolette, I am a proud Metis and a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology. I also have completed degrees in Child & Youth Care and Social Work.. I am registered to provide services to First Nation Health Authority clients'.
I have always known that I wanted to work with people in a helping capacity. My career has involved many opportunities to enhance my formal education with life experience; involving people from all walks of life. Some of the most influential roles where I gained valuable knowledge include:
My approach is to build a therapeutic relationship based on trust and respect in a safe environment. Being empathetic and genuine is my commitment to quality of care to clients without being judgmental.
The modality that I mainly utilize is Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT); to help clients improve their mental health by a here and now perspective. SFT is a short-term goal oriented approach where the counsellor and client work together in a collaborative approach. This perspective allows clients to use mindfulness-based approaches helping to self-explore, become self-aware, and learn self-care. Emphasis will be on the client to establish goals by using their 0wn abilities and vision to find solutions. This process helps to ensure the client develops a much deeper understanding of themselves; and to reduce the amount of time spent in therapy.
Some areas to be explored include:
You do not have to own your pain. It is time to focus on yourself and formulate a plan of action to bring more bliss into your life and future.
