My name is Dean H. Laviolette, I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology. I have also completed degrees in Child & Youth Care and Social Work.
I have always known that I wanted to work with people in a helping capacity and my career has involved many opportunities to enhance my formal education with life experience involving people from all walks of life. Some of the most influential roles where I gained valuable knowledge about myself include:
Youth Worker in group homes and young offender wilderness camp.
Counsellor and referral services at an inner city homeless shelter and detox centre.
Case Worker for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island.
Counsellor and group session co-facilitator at Men's Centre.
My approach is to build a therapeutic relationship based on trust and respect in a safe environment. Being empathetic and genuine is my commitment to quality of care to clients without being judgmental.
The use of mindfulness-based approaches seem to help clients self-explore, become self-aware, and learn self-care.
